Sign the Petition to Ban Sex-Selection Abortion

There's a poignant scene in Anne of Green Gables when she realizes that Marilla and Matthew had been expecting a little boy orphan to help out on the farm. "You don't want me because I'm not a boy?" she asks. "I might have guessed. Nobody ever did want me." Ann had something in common with all the little girls who are unwanted even before birth, however she had the advantage of already being born. No one would kill her for being a girl. But plenty of people out there see their unborn babies as designer items. The first requirement is being the "right" sex. Unfortunately for little girls that is generally boys.

Congressman Trent Franks (R-AZ) has introduced a bill to make sex selection abortion illegal. You can sign a petition supporting this bill at the ACLJ's (American Center for Law and Justice) website. Let's go on record as opposing this barbarism. Abortion is bad for any reason, but killing a baby because she happens to be the "wrong" sex...well, there aren't words! Do we really want to imitate China's murderous example?

  1. You are committing the same fallacy, by saying only *certain* type of abortion bans should be vigorously pursued. No, all abortions are bad and all abortions should be banned.

Like the partial-birth abortion ban, the incrementalists have picked the low-hanging fruit - the most-obvious to object-to situations of abortion. This obscures the inherent wrong of all abortion. The assertion that gender-selection is a bad reason to abort leads the public to believe that there are good reasons to abort.

  2. Well -- I've vigorously pursued all abortion ever since it was legalized. I've spoken against it in schools, sidewalked counseled at abortion mills, and spent time in jail on three occasions. But I'm still in favor of any legislation that focuses the spotlight on the evil and puts the pro-aborts in the position of defending their atrocities. I think one of the reasons that the society as a whole is moving toward the pro-life position is the exposure of the gruesomeness and the religious-like fervor of the abortion crowd.

Do I believe sex selection abortion or late term abortion are worse than other abortions? No - they all kill a living infant who is just as dead no matter where on the continuum he or she is murdered. These later abortions are simply more gruesome. But that very gruesomeness illustrates that all abortions are gruesome; some are just more gruesome than others.

  3. Yep, "hoochie mama" sounds about right. As Dolly Parton once said: it costs a lot to look this cheap.
