June Brides: "Get a Shawl or There'll be no Wedding!"

Princess Kate on her wedding way
My fellow blogger, Dymphna, posted on the immodest dresses being worn by brides. One person commenting described a priest sending a message out to a bride to "get a shawl or there'll be no wedding." Good for him!

Now why wouldn't a bride want to look like a princess instead of like...well...to be delicate...I'll say...a chorus girl?

  1. Regarding the Archduke and his bride Kathleen: the lace was added to the original dress she picked out. Absolutely beautiful and modest. My 8th grade girl students covered this wedding closely! (I was trying to teach them that they are a daughter of a King; so they princesses and act accordingly.

  2. What a great thing to do for your class, Tricia. Thanks for sharing. Most dresses these days have to be modified. It's hard to find one that isn't strapless. When our youngest married six years ago we had to modify her dress as well.

  3. Yes, most dresses are strapless, which goes to show you that most priests today are either unfamiliar with Canon Law, or just are not doing their job. This kind of dress is not even allowed in Church. Even sleeveless shirts or shirts with a half-sleeve aren't allowed, but you would not know that in most of our parishes. I learned this from Father Dominic on EWTN. He said that when people are dressed like that in the Vatican, they are given paper clothes to wear. Also, if they are dressed like that (without the paper clothes), they should not be given Communion, under Canon 916. Priests need to get it together today with regard to the proper enforcement of Canon Law. And if gals have on a strapless dress, they should wear a shawl, or be denied a wedding. And just one point of clarity. A half-sleeve shirt is not immodest. However, it is inappropriate for Church. Standards of modesty can differ in accordance with the setting.
